Subject: Ports

Is there a formula for extending ports beyond the exterior boundary of a fourth order design. My goal is to build a subwoofer for placement in one room to supply sound to an adjacent room, My thought is to design an enclosure with the port actually extending through the wall-the wall being somewhere between.5-2" thick(I can vary it within that range.) Simply sliding the port out would change the effective volume of the enclosure-do I simply need to account for the change in volume from pushing the port out? Any direction will be greatly appreciated!
